According to Filipe Anacoreta Correia (CDS-PP), 30 cameras should be installed in Cais do Sodré and 32 in Campo das Cebolas in January and, in July, another 17 cameras in Restauradores and 20 in Ribeira das Naus.
The deadlines were advanced by the mayor in front of the deputies of the Lisbon Municipal Assembly during a hearing on the proposed municipal budget for 2025, before councillor Ângelo Pereira, responsible for civil protection, was also heard.
According to Ângelo Pereira, the area where the video surveillance will be placed, “from 2025, will be under the responsibility of the Municipal Police”.
The councillor also highlighted that the police have been monitoring “more in recent years” at night in these locations, and, “regardless of the lack of agents, have carried out several inspection actions”.
The award for the installation of the video monitoring system in the Campo das Cebolas area, for a total value of €426,000 and with an execution period of three years, was approved by the city hall on April 12 of this year.
Currently, Lisbon has 33 video surveillance cameras in the city - 26 in Bairro Alto since 2014 and seven in the Miradouro de Santa Catarina region since 2022.
In March 2021, the Ministry of Internal Administration authorised the installation of 216 video surveillance cameras in Lisbon.
